I was familiar with Bible stories but I didn’t necessarily understand how the Word of God should inform my everyday life. Maybe you can relate? I didn’t connect with scripture until I started using my colored pens and post-its in my Bible. A few years later I discovered Bible Journaling. When I began incorporating my favorite art supplies in my study time, Bible Study and devotional time became FUN and even more MEANINGFUL!
“Any fool can know. The point is to understand.”
― Albert Einstein
Why Bible Journaling? It helps us learn what we read!
Reading for the sake of reading doesn’t help us if we’re not understanding or connecting with the heart of God when we’re reading scripture so I want to make sure I say this at least once: The Holy Spirit is our teacher and He gives us understanding. Start by praying then take the time to understand how you learn. It could be a turning point for you, take your learning to the next level, and reduce your struggle with your devotional time.
According to scientists, Fleming and Mills, humans have three basic learning styles – Visual (V), Auditory (A), Kinesthetic (K).
Some of us learn and retain information faster by seeing words and pictures (V), others learn by listening to a teacher speak (A), while others need a hands-on experience (K) to really process information. And the more senses are engaged, the better our learning and retention will be. That’s good news.
Bible journaling engages all three of the learning styles. It’s no wonder it has taken off for people who once declared they couldn’t study or understanding the Bible. Now we have new opportunities to approach, experience, and understand the Word in a fun way.
